I was out looking for some images of 96 V4's that have been prepared for racing on a track but have not been able to find any.

Does anyone know of, or have, images of V4's prepared for the race track, likewise if there is information on what has been done to the cars.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hur såg chassiet ut på dessa bilar? Var drivaxlarna etc längre eller är det fälgarna som är annorlunda? Och hur var bakaxeln konstruerad?

Mats - From what I have been able to work out, the car is based on a 1971 Saab V4, 1498cc engine (std size but not sure whats been done to it), the wheels are very wide and seem to be 13" 4-bolts. US Front and it looks like near standard interior but I haven't seen a good close up yet. They raced the car in 1971 and 72. It looks like a half (rear) roll cage, in the car, was this the norm in the early 70's?

Does anyone have drawings for the half-roll cage for the 96, I would like to get hold of one or build one.

Any further information would be appreciated. Once I have been able to gather/confirm the information I will put out all out on the forum.

Ole - Thanks for posting the images, I am still looking for information. So far I have been able to get copies of the regulations and homologation papers, a lot of reading to do. What division does your car race in and what year is it.

If you still race, when and where will you be out again so that I can plan a trip over to see it in action.

Per-Arvid - Thanks, I am impressed with the size of wheels fitted to the car without modifying the bodywork, must be very stiff springs/shocks fitted.

Mats - You mention that the exhaust on Johansson's car looks like a std-B exhaust, is this the same type of "sports" exhaust you can get from the Saabklub or the one your where looking for.

To call the system in the photo above a "Std-B" is really a little careless, since you can't decide whether it is a true std-B or not. The most significant feature of the std-B-system was/is the bend the pipe on the right hand side of the engine does around the oil filter. The design is said to give an equally long way for the fumes from both sides and that they collide at the Y-junction in a favourable way. The only thing you can be sure of is that the system in the photo is congruent with SSK's sport system" since it uses the original holes in the floor.

Tror inte på std B system, kolla presis vid oljerkylare till höger så tycker jag man ser ett avgasrör till.

Eftersom bilden är från 60-talet så är det inte något stdB-system. Klasserna stdB och stdA kom först i mitten av 70-talet. 76 kanske ?

Så rätt. Och när jag letar i SS&R-katalogen finns inte systemet beskrivet eller avbildat. Jag kan alltså inte visa vad jag tänker på. Vad kallar vi det system som har/hade en böj runt oljefiltret?

Den gamle Saab køre endnu. Har godt ikke været på banen siden CHGP 2006, men jeg håber at få tid til at køre i år. (Er ved at bygge hus om)Hvis der bliver tid til at køre bliver det sikkert på Knutstorp 3-4 maj eller Sturup 20-21 september, der holder HMS klubløb..
Er medlem af HMS Historisk Motorsport danmark "www.hms.dk" og har kørt med i deres klubmesterskab i 2005 i division B3 "biler fra 1966 til 1971, ccm 1300 til 2000"
Bilen er sat op efter homologation no. 1608
Er pt. ved at samle de sidste dele til en ny motor, som gerne skulle prøves i år...

det finns ju bild på sigges motor i från 2 takt till turbo , sen så har jag 2 gamla foton från depån på kinnekulle ring jag ska leta fram dem å scanna in dem
